Construction Materials and Laboratory Technician

Job Description:

The successful candidate will be required to be thoroughly knowledgeable regarding the standard test methods for all tests performed by an engineering field and laboratory technician and perform these tests. Field duties include grading observation and soil compaction testing; compaction testing and observation of aggregate base and asphalt concrete; and obtaining samples of soil, aggregate base, asphalt, and cement concrete. Laboratory testing duties include performing standard laboratory testing for samples of soil, aggregate base, asphalt concrete, and cement concrete. Duties also include maintaining of proper and complete files of field and laboratory data, reports, letters, and other pertinent field data, maintain clear communications with the Project Manager regarding all aspects of the field operations including providing of neat and orderly project documentation.

Education:

The ideal candidate will have soil, asphalt concrete, and cement concrete testing field and laboratory testing experience. NAQTC, ICC, NICET, ACI and nuclear gauge certifications preferred.

Required Skills:

Candidate should be able to perform laboratory testing including in-situ moisture and density, Maximum Density and Optimum Moisture Content (Proctor), Gradation Analysis (including Hydrometer), Atterberg Limits, Consolidation/Swell, and soil corrosion according to ASTM or AASHTO standards. Candidate should also be able to perform concrete compression, asphalt content/gradation, and Theoretical Maximum (Rice) density testing. Candidate should have excellent verbal and written communication skills, a positive attitude, good organizational skills, and a strong work ethic. Must have a current valid driver’s license and good driving record.
